Community Choir Program

Register Here!

Welcome to our new community choir program! This program is a part of an initiative to broaden access to music and the arts in our community. Our hope is to blend the fun and challenge of a high-quality singing group with ease and joy of social music-making. Music isn’t just about the final product but about the fun along the way.

We hope you get the sense that it’s all about having  your cake and eating it too… while singing! Whether you’re new to music or an older-timer, there’s a place for you here.

What to expect?
Vibe
We are a laid back group of singers looking to make high quality music while having fun.

Rehearsals/Scheduling
We rehearse twice a month for about an hour and a half. Scheduling is based on group availability, occasionally we add extra rehearsals as needed.

Repertoire
We sing mostly a cappella arrangements ranging from 4 - 6 part harmony. We try out best to keep our repertoire selections accessible to all levels, with the occasional challenge!

Performances
We offer community based concerts on essentially a tip-based systems. You can find us carol along Mountain View’s downtown, or other downtowns, or performing for local organizations such as senior living communities, church organizations, or local nonprofits, etc.

Rehearsals
Scheduling
Currently, rehearsals are held on Saturday afternoons from 5:30 - 7:00. We base our rehearsal schedule around on our groups availability to make sure rehearsal are accessible to everyone involved. We do the scheduling that way you can have the fun.

Location
We are based in the West Shoreline Neighborhood in Mountain View, CA.

What to bring
Bring a water bottle if you like. We typical have snacks and refreshments available either by the host or members who bring goods to share. Otherwise, just bring you music and your voice!

Other things
Is there a participation fee?
Nope! This group is totally free to join. In fact you might make some tips during our performances!

Do I need to read music?
Nope. Reading music is not a requirement we will provide you everything you need if you do read music, either sending parts recordings home, or having your part played during rehearsal.

What is the attendance expectation?
We do ask that members try their best to attend every rehearsal, even if just for a bit or you are running late. But life happens, just let us know ahead of time.

Do I need to memorize music?
Yes. Our goal is to have all our music memorized by our performances. But walking around with a binder never hurt anyone.

How many performances does the group do?
We try to have at least two performances during the December season, one caroling, and one a concert type setting. Sometimes with a solid group we will have more performances for local organizations, such as senior living communities, church organizations, or local nonprofits. The more performances means more tips!

About The Director

Picture
David Garcia is a music educator based in Mountain View, CA with over 10 years of experience in music teaching and performance. David pursued his Bachelors of Music from Chapman University. His teaching blends rigorous and in-depth curricula with authentic artistic and musical connection.

David has taught in various music programs along the Bay Area peninsula — creating a bilingual after-school music program at Castro Elementary, building a full music program from the ground up at Up Academy, as well as teaching at the Music School in Sunnyvale, CA. Today, he continues to teaching through he private studio and freelance work.

Through his community choir initiative, David hopes to build a more connected community around a love for the arts and music. As a former chorister and music student, he felt some directors or ensembles could become too intense, too time consuming, or — honestly— kinda just mean. He is actively to redefining what a community choir can be: a space the keeps its musical integrity while removing the stress and pressure too often associated with the arts. His hopes is that this groups becomes that perfect middle space for everyone.

When he’s not teaching or community organizing he can be found crafting at home, cooking, writing, working on his drag, or hang with friends! It’s always a fun time at la casa!
